Dr. Rohit Mehta is a board-certified pulmonary/critical care specialist originally from Toronto, Ontario. He received his medical degree from the Medical University of the Americas in Nevis, WI.
Dr. Mehta’s post-graduate training began with a research fellowship at the Toronto General Hospital and Hospital for Sick Children at the University of Toronto in Toronto, ON. He then completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA and McKeesport, PA. Finally, he solidified his specialty through a three year pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, IL.
With training in Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Toronto, Dr. Mehta specializes in the treatment of pulmonary, sleep and critical care medicine. He has completed extensive training in advanced bronchoscopy techniques and interventional pulmonary medicine to assist patients with the diagnosis and work up of lung cancer and various chest diseases, palliation procedures for advanced cancer and procedures for difficult to treat asthma.
Dr. Mehta is the first pulmonologist in the region to initiate and continue performing advanced bronchoscopy techniques such as endobronchial ultrasound guided biopsies preventing the need for invasive procedures, peripheral needle aspiration of pulmonary lesions and placement of chronic in dwelling chest tubes for recurrent malignant pleural effusions. He will be the first in the region to shortly implement endobronchial molecular testing for the management of pulmonary nodules.
Dr. Mehta remains actively involved in academic medicine. He is a peer reviewer for major medical journals, some of which include: Annals of Internal Medicine, Respirology, Journal of Critical Care Medicine and the International Journal of General Internal Medicine. He continues to hold titles of Adjunct and Assistant Professor of Medicine at large universities located in Canada and the United States. Dr. Mehta was key faculty in 2019 at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry located in Ontario, Canada, assisting with the implementation and selection of applicants for the medical school.
He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and has achieved Fellowship status with the American College of Physicians and American College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Physicians.
Outside of his professional work, Dr. Mehta enjoys a number of outdoor activities, archery, weight training, cycling and wood working.
