IRMC Physician Group (IPG) Cardiology specializes in the diagnosis, management, and prevention of diseases related to the heart. IPG offers consultations with our providers and cardiac nurses focusing on medication and lifestyle issues. We use a multidisciplinary approach to provide high quality care to you and your family.

Dr. Edward McDowell is a board-certified cardiologist who is originally from Greensburg, PA. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh. His post-graduate training began with an internal medicine internship followed by a residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He then completed a fellowship in cardiology at Allegheny General Hospital.
For more than 35 years, Dr. McDowell has demonstrated excellence in his position at Indiana Regional Medical Center. In 2008, he was awarded the Compass Award by IRMC and recognized as a “living legend” for consistently exceeding expectations in his job duties. In 2013, IRMC also awarded him the James A. Garrettson Physician Excellence Award for modeling exemplary performance, leadership, clinical excellence, and patient care.
Dr. McDowell has been President of the Medical Staff for five years. He holds professional memberships with the American College of Cardiology, the Indiana County Medical Society, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
In his spare time, Dr. McDowell enjoys music and takes an interest in 19th century brass instruments. He was previously a member of a Civil War military band called “The Wild Cat Regiment Band.”
Dr. John Gregg is a cardiologist who is board-certified in cardiology, internal medicine, and echocardiography. He is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
After his education, Dr. Gregg completed an internal medicine residency and internship at V.A. Hospital in Washington, DC. He then completed a fellowship in cardiology at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Dr. Gregg has been practicing in the Indiana community since 2003. During that time, he has utilized his knowledge and experience to provide diagnostic and clinical care to a broad spectrum of patients.
He has held memberships with the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the Allegheny County Medical Society, and the American Society of Echocardiography. Accordingly, Dr. Gregg has held fellowships with the American College of Cardiology, the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Intervention, and the American College of Angiology.
Outside of his professional work, Dr. Gregg enjoys spending time with family, biking, and swimming. He is also active in two competitive Internet chess groups.
Melissa Duncan is a physician assistant who is originally from Homer City, PA. She received her Masters of Physician Assistant from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
Throughout her education, Melissa developed a strong and comprehensive medical background. She has clinical experience in several specialty areas, including internal medicine, behavioral health, pediatrics, cardiology, obstetrics/ gynecology, emergency medicine, and surgery.
Since the completion of her studies, Melissa has worked in the field of cardiology at Indiana Regional Medical Center. Her superior insight towards the needs of others has significantly added value to her position.
Additionally, Melissa holds professional memberships with the American Association of Physician Assistants and the Pennsylvania Association of Physician Assistants.
Outside of her professional work, Melissa enjoys reading, running, and hiking.
Dana McElroy is a Physician Assistant who since 2005 has made Indiana, PA her home. Upon graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a minor in Biology, she received a master’s degree in Food Science from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC and started a career in food safety and public health at Penn State University. While working in the field of foodborne illness, she became interested in the field of medicine and pursued a Master’s of Physician Assistant Sciences from Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA.
During her medical training she completed rotations in family medicine, internal medicine, behavioral health, general surgery, emergency medicine, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology. Since 2008, Dana has practiced in the field of cardiology, and now brings her cardiovascular care experience to IRMC Physician Group (IPG). Prior to her time with IPG, she used her expertise at the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute here in Indiana, PA.
In Dana’s free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling and exercising.
