Nutrition: Applesauce Brownie Recipe

Chocolate brownies are a popular dessert and there is an easy way to make them healthier by using a healthy oil substitute.

Substituting unsweetened applesauce for oil in brownie mix can decrease calorie intake by more than 100. For the best results, follow the recipe below.

Ingredients

  • 7 tablespoons flour
  • 1cup cocoa
  • 1teaspoon salt
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 large egg
  • 3cup white sugar
  • 8 tablespoons applesauce
  • 1 1teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon walnuts (chopped)

Directions

  1. Combine flour, cocoa, and salt; mix well.
  2. Whisk together egg whites, egg, sugar, applesauce, and vanilla.
  3. Add egg mixture to flour mixture. Mix until blended, but DON'T overmix.
  4. Pour into greased 8 inch pan.
  5. Sprinkle with walnuts.
  6. Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes.
